5 Ways To Monitor and Optimize Data for Maximum Usage On Android

This is  one feature every Android operator should get to know, to save data for maximum usage.

I use this 5 features in saving data when i have something important to do with it. But before i list the 5 ways in which you could monitor and optimize data, I'll give some advice on how you can save data without monitoring and optimization.

My Advice...
(You can skip this)

Now, assuming you got 3.5GB for the month of December, let's say that's your monthly subscription for browsing, downloading and other surfing activities, and you have strictly mapped out the uses of those data in your mind.

Apparently, you subscribed for the sole purpose of education, reading mails, blogging, celebrities news, technology and for social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, reddit and the likes of others. Do not be tempted to visit sites like Instagram, YouTube, vine or other video streaming platforms, They'll be very quick to lashed out your data with out any second thoughts.

If you have much data to spare, you can disregard the advice i gave.

NOTE: Always use your data according to your map outs.

Now, straight to the main business

Here's How to Optimize and Monitor Data for Maximum Usage

DIY Disclaimer: This tutorial was done using Android 5.1 Lollipop, it's basically the same process with marshmallow, kitkat and lower versions

1. Restrict Background Process.

App usage data

By default, Android apps are set to use data from background process, by background process i mean that when you're presently on an app - you're on foreground, and when you leave that app - you're now at background process.

particular app usage data

Steps

  • Go to settings
  • Tap on Data usage
  • Tap on the cellular network you use for browsing
  • Under app usage >> Tap on any App you wish to restrict
  • Tick or switch the checkbox, button which says Restrict App background data ON

List of restricted apps

  • When an app is in background process, it retrieves data from the cloud to the app
Example: You're on facebook then receives a WhatsApp message, it's because your WhatsApp uses background data, once turned off, you'll recieve no messages except you're on foreground (in the current app e.g WhatsApp)

2. Monitor Data Usage

Do you want to limit the amount of data you use daily? Or want to share capped data for someone to use for a While?

Here's  are the Steps

NOTE: Ensure your cellular network is turned ON and Turn on cellular data limit

1. Set data usage warning, e.g 699MB out 2000MB (in black),

Data usage limit

Set data usage limit to 750MB; your data automatically shuts down after reaching it's data limits. To increase data cap follow the same processes.

2. Set cycler date of data; You can set a date to monitor data usage. It is best that you monitor data usage from the day you subscribed, it will give you deeper analysis on how your data was spent.

Data is monitored from the day it was set to when your data elapses.

3. Ensure your cellular data and cellular data limit is turned on

3. Data Saving Apps

They're tons of apps available on PlayStore to help optimize and monitor data usage for your device.
